I am an Italian machine-learning scientist working at the intersection of Earth system science, weather and climate modelling, data assimilation, and artificial intelligence. My research combines scientific modelling, large-scale environmental data processing, and machine learning for applications in weather forecasting, climate science, and ocean modelling.

I hold a PhD in Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges from the University of Bologna, carried out in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC). My doctoral research focused on data assimilation for advanced cross-scale unstructured-grid ocean modelling.

More recently, as a SMASH Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND postdoctoral researcher at the University of Ljubljana, I developed a neural-network-based observation operator for assimilating weather-radar observations into a 3DVar framework. My work covered the full research workflow, from processing TB-scale datasets and training neural networks with PyTorch and GPUs to validation, data-assimilation integration, and publication of open-source software and datasets. You can read more about this work here.

I have also worked on ocean data assimilation at CMCC and on regional climate modelling at ICTP, where I studied the effects of urbanisation on the West African monsoon. My technical work focuses mainly on Python, PyTorch, scientific data processing, Linux/HPC environments, and reproducible workflows for large weather, climate, satellite, and numerical-model datasets.

Alongside research, I am interested in scientific communication and education, particularly in making topics such as climate change, data assimilation, and deterministic chaos accessible to students and wider audiences.
